OVERVIEW
Welcome to the City of Petersburg Office of Volunteerism and Community Engagement! Volunteers are vital to the City of Petersburg, and Volunteerism is an essential community resource that promotes social inclusion and active citizenship. There are many ways to get involved, so coupled with your skills, talents, interest, and motivation to volunteer - we are going to be a great team!
The Petersburg Ambassadors Program is where individuals will engage in a vibrant culture of volunteerism as Collegiate Ambassadors, Eco-Friendly Ambassadors, General Ambassadors, High School Ambassadors, and Seasoned Ambassadors.
Collegiate Ambassador - College students with an interest and drive to develop their leadership skills, enhance their resumes, and gain experience while providing valuable service to the City of Petersburg through internships, fieldwork, and community service work. The duration of time is determined by the student or university/college.
Eco-Friendly Ambassador - Volunteers age 18/over with eco-friendly skills and interest in preserving and protecting the environment. The duration of time commitment is determined by the Go-Green Ambassador.
General Ambassador - Volunteers age 18/over, skills, talents, and motivation to volunteer, dependable, reliable. If you have a community service requirement, you must present proper documentation and contact information.
High School Ambassador - Students must be enrolled in Petersburg Public Schools/Appomattox Regional Governors School, 15 years and over. Must complete a minimum of 20 Community Service Hours/duration of time based on the High School Ambassador commitment and for school requirements. Students will develop leadership skills, Public Speaking Experience, resume building, and valuable community service experience.
Seasoned Ambassador - Volunteers age 50/over that possess motivation and willingness to volunteer, dependable and reliable, Duration of time commitment is determined by the Seasoned Ambassador.
Community Partner Program - Community Partners play a vital role in recruiting volunteers for the Petersburg Ambassadors Program. Community Partners will share, assist with the development of a partnership, and align efforts to reflect a more cohesive volunteer effort between the city, Community Partners, and Ambassadors. Also, this opportunity will allow the development and implementation of a community calendar for Community Partners.

ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Playground/Park Clean Up - Volunteer Ambassadors: Mulching, painting equipment, and removal of trash. Sites: Lee Park, Oakhurst Playground, McKenzie Street Playground, Poplar Lawn Park, Farmer Street Playground, School Playground sites, Albert Jones Football Field and Cameron Field.
Volunteer Ambassadors Coaches - Baseball/Basketball Coaches, Basketball Season (January through March), Baseball Season (April - June), Ages 4 through 15, Volunteer Coaches: Ages 18 & Over
Senior Citizens Programs - Volunteer Ambassadors needed: to Assist with the Senior Program sponsored by the City of Petersburg in collaboration with Tabernacle Baptist Church, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am -2:00 pm
Summer Youth Recreation Program - Volunteer Ambassadors: Assist with lunch, provide educational health seminars, assist with games, and assist with front desk operations. Volunteer as a chaperone for Senior Field Trips.
